VFX Project

VFX project created with maya

I created a fireball VFX using the fluid effects in Maya. I focused on capturing the randomness of the flame, and I did so by increasing the turbulence value. I also tried to highlight the temperature of the flame, and I did so by adjusting the color distribution of the flame, including a transition from yellow to red, and concluding it with black smoke.

My

Reflection

This project is my approach to getting to experience the visual effects creation process. I believe I will be able to communicate more efficiently in collaborative environments if I am familiar with other game design processes, so I tried to at least have some basic experience with VFX creation.

My biggest takeaway from these projects is how observation plays a huge role in VFX creation. When creating effects similar to real-life events, such as burning flames, it is essential to observe flames in real life and try to capture the key aspects to focus on when trying to recreate them. I noticed that fire comes in multiple layers with multiple colors, while flames have more fluctuation compared to smoke. These two aspects then became my main focus when creating this VFX. This experience encourages me to incorporate observation and reflection in future creation processes.
